Mammoth Climbing Guides is a small guide service located in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. Our focus is unparalleled customer experience, education, training, custom trips, fast and light ascents, and climbs that can be accomplished in one day.
Intimate knowledge of the area: MCG guides live, work, and play in the Sierra Nevada. We have climbed all the routes we guide and know the range very well.
Small course sizes and guide to client ratio: MCG believes in keeping course and trip sizes small to maximize the learning and experience of our clients. This gives customers more one on one time and enhances the quality of the trip.
Highest level of guide certification and training: All MCG guides have been trained and or have passed rigorous guide assessments that are nationally recognized adhering to the highest levels of industry standards, safety, and best practices.

All of our guides have been trained and or certified in climber self rescue and posses the necessary medical certifications.

Client charges include guided/instructional trips (rock and ice climbing). Prices include all necessary equipment for climbing, Including: harness, helmet, shoes, carabineers, ropes, belay devices, ice tools, crampons, etc.

MCG is dedicated to providing an exceptional customer experience. Has such, we keep our group size limited to 6 people.
Alpine and “in a day” climbs are limited to 2 people maximum and may require a 1 on 1 guide to client ratio depending on the climb.
The minimum age for climbing is 6 years old.
We reserve the right to keep any client from climbing if we determine that safety is an issue.
MCG does NOT provide travel to or from climbing destinations. In most cases we will meet at the trail head for particular climbs. Travel arrangements must be made ahead of time for drop off and pick up.
Gratuity is not included in the price. PLEASE tip your guide! Common gratuity is 15 to 20 percent of the cost of the trip.
All trips must be paid in full, no later than 48 hours in advance. A deposit of $100 can be made if scheduling before 48 hours to lock in preferred dates or courses.
Cancellations made up to 15 days before a scheduled trip will be refunded 100% of the deposit fee. Within 15 days of a scheduled trip with at least 48 hours notice MCG will retain a 50% deposit fee.
Cancellations made within 48 hours are non-refundable. MCG is un-able to refund or reschedule your trip due to personal injury, illness, issues with your group, environmental concerns, or change of travel plans.
If weather becomes a safety issue before your climb we will reschedule and or offer 100% credit for a later date to be determined. No refunds will be given.
We will do our best to determine if the weather is appropriate for a climb. “In a Day” and alpine climbs are subject to rain, hail, snow, wind and other variables that are beyond our control. If we are turned around during a climb due to weather no refunds or re-schedules will be given.
Zach Schneider is the owner, operator, and head guide of Mammoth Climbing Guides. He is a graduate of Prescott College with a degree in Adventure Education and Wilderness Leadership and a minor in Environmental studies. He has lived in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains of California for over 10 years and knows the range intimately. With over 15 years of climbing experience his climbing resume includes big wall ascents of Yosemite’s iconic El Capitan and Half Dome and wall routes in Zion National Park. He has accomplished long alpine routes all over the Sierra Nevada that require solid skills on rock, ice, and snow. Zach equally enjoys climbing, ice climbing, alpine routes, and skiing. He has climbed all but four of California’s fourteen thousand foot peaks either by a technical climbing route and or by ski descent. His sense of adventure and experience has enabled him to climb in many areas throughout the United States and develop new climbs and climbing areas in the Eastern Sierra. Zach has an immense passion for being in the mountains and sharing his knowledge and experience with others. His role has guide, teacher, and mentor has been enjoyed by many and will not disappoint!
